Dr. Ron Butler, co-author of Butterflies of Maine and the Canadian Maritime Provinces, will cover the evolution, taxonomy, basic biology, and ecology of butterflies in the region. The program will include representative members of each of the five butterfly families in Maine and the Maritimes to give folks a feel for the regional diversity of this group of insects. And he’ll share a few of the results from the combined Maine and Maritimes surveys, and explore butterfly conservation issues in an era of global climate change.  Sources to aid in butterfly identification will be mentioned at the end of the presentation..
